Milan – Abu Dhabi, 2022.  BridgeLaw, with lead counsel Gianluca Benedetti and his colleague Rodolfo G. La Rosa, and the assistance of a primary firm in the UAE, has acted for one of the main Italian EPC Contractors, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, in LCIA arbitration proceedings vs. the issuer of a C.A.R. - Construction-All-Risk insurance policy, in the context of a USD 2.5 billion oil pipeline expansion project in the region of Abu Dhabi.

The four-year arbitration proceedings resulted in the LCIA Arbitral Tribunal issuing three separate awards, on liability, quantum and arbitration costs, all favorable to the EPC Contractor advised by our firm.

This article reviews the recent EU regulatory actions that directly and significantly affect the maritime transport and port sector. In particular, the author comments on the two recent proposals for regulations (part of the so-called EU «Fit for 55» climate package), respectively the FuelEu Maritime, on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport, and the AFIR, on deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure.
